In 2008, Charleston had it’s first Pecha Kucha Night. PechaKucha (Japanese: ぺちゃくちゃ, IPA: [petɕa kɯ̥tɕa], chit-chat) is a presentation style in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each (6 minutes and 40 seconds in total). Brady was asked to present on a topic of his choice. He asked Papa Robbie to help him tell the PKN audience the truth about Jamaican music and it’s massive influence over popular music.
10 years later, the event is celebrating the anniversary by inviting the 10 original speakers to present again. Plenty has happened since then. We have kids. We have a Billboard Reggae No. 1 Album.
But nothing’s changed as far as Jamaica getting the acknowledgement it deserves. So, Daddy Brady and Papa Robbie will present together this time. The words may change a bit. But the message will be the same. Check out this article in Rolling Stone on the topic. The Dubplates love Jamaica and we won’t stop talking about this… maybe ever.
